My husband surprised me the other month when he bought me a Wacom Intuos5 Pen Tablet.

Wacom Intuos5 Pen Tablet

Who’s it for?
Graphic artists, designers, illustrators and photographers to name a few.

Why would you want it?
Personally, for me I like that it’s pressure sensitive so when I’m working in a program like SketchBook or Photoshop I have more control when it comes to drawing and applying effects.

What size?
I have mine in medium which is 15″ x 9.9″ x .5″ and weighs 2.18 lbs. I like this size because its easy to travel with. But you might like the larger tablet, it’s a personal choice. I didn’t like the small size because you loss some of the function buttons and the surface area for me was just too small to comfortably work on.

Bonuses: When my husband bought my tablet it came with some extra software. I’ve been playing around in the free SketchBook Express software and really like it. Two other programs I got were a 90-day trial of Corel and AnimeStudio.

Cost: $350
Wireless kit cost: $40

There are other pens you can buy, but I’m very comfortable with the one it came with.

There is also a Wireless accessory kit that I think I will end up buying too.

I just finished an illustration using my pen tablet and the SketchBook program. The final illustration will be in the November/December issue of Smart magazine.
